Pierre-Luc Déziel

Assistant Professor, Laval University

Pierre-Luc Déziel has been a professor at Laval University’s Faculty of Law since 2016. Previously, he was scientific coordinator of the CRDP and a postdoctoral fellow at the L.R. Wilson Chair in Information Technologies and E-Commerce Law. In 2014, under the direction of Professor Karim Benyekhlef, he defended his doctoral thesis entitled “La protection de la vie privée au temps de la biosécurité” (the protection of privacy in the era of biosafety), for which he earned the mention of exceptional. His doctoral research was funded, among others, by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).

Prior to joining the CRDP in 2011, Pierre-Luc completed a master's degree in political theory and history at the Paris Institute of Political Studies (SciencePo Paris) and a bachelor's degree in political science and economics at McGill University. He also studied architecture during a study visit at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.

His main research interests focus on the intersection of the right to privacy and the right to health, more specifically on the impact of public health and infectious disease monitoring on the right to privacy.

Pierre-Luc Is also an associate researcher at the Canada Research Chair in Collaborative Culture in Health Law and Policy.
